We know that breastmilk is considered liquid gold, and if you’ve got some in your freezer, you likely worked hard to get it there, so we are here to help preserve it for you. 

Why??

Why might you want to freeze dry your breastmilk:

  • convenience for travel

  • increase shelf life; milk generally stays good in the freezer for up to 6 months, but as a freeze dried powder can stay good up to 3 years.  Some sources say that freeze-drying food can prolong it’s shelf life to 10-20 years!!  We would highly recommend using your powdered milk before 10 years…

  • the freeze-drying process locks in all the magical nutrition that’s built into breastmilk  

  • if you’ve got high lipase milk and bubs doesn’t like the taste of your defrosted, previously frozen milk

  • you’ve got a freezer full and need the space!

  • stockpile in preparation for transitioning back to work; easy for caregivers to provide bubs with breastmilk while mama is back to work

  • bubs is weaning off milk and you’ve got a stash you’re not sure what to do with (you can easily add your powdered breastmilk to food and smoothies for your toddler)

  • you’ve pumped for someone else and want a safe way to ship and send

  • protect your stash from loss during a power-outage, or other disaster

How?

Freeze drying breast milk is not a crazy space-age process, but something that does require a special machine, which we have here at LactiSnack!  The process of freeze drying turns your frozen breastmilk into a shelf stable powder.  Through this process, the water inside the milk is removed using super low temperatures and pressure systems, after pressure is applied a small amount of heat is added to allow the frozen water to change into a gas. 

We only put one mama’s breastmilk in the machine at a time, so there is no worry of cross-contamination, or the potential of getting someone else’s milk back (ew!).  We sanitize the machine in between uses, so it’s nice and sterile for processing your milk.
